About York Railway Station

York Railway Station is one of the busiest in the North. Not only is York an excellent cultural and retail hub, but the station is one of the main changeover points for people wanting to access the lesser-known areas of the country.

At the time it was built, in June 1877, it was the largest railway station in the world.

You could spend a day just hanging around York Train Station. There’s an attractive Costa Coffee at the end of one of the footbridges, fast food outlets, a greengrocer’s, deli and several pubs. The York Tab has an outdoor seating area looking directly on to one of the platforms, or you can have a drink in the Duke of York, which can also be accessed from inside the station.

You can access The National Railway Museum directly from the station via a footbridge. The museum is free and well worth a visit!

It really is an historic landmark in its own right - so leave time to enjoy it!
